What should be the purpose of education and how should it be promoted? When to start and what to teach to bring up or lead out the generations who will be ready to make this world that what it is – paradise? Below are some of the beautiful words by Helene Roerich:
“Education of the people should start with the primary upbringing of children, from the earliest possible age; the sooner the better. Trust that mental exhaustion results only from sluggishness. Every mother, when approaching her baby’s cradle, should utter the first formula of education: “You can achieve anything.” There is no need for prohibitions. Even harmful things should not be forbidden; it is better to divert the child’s attention towards something more useful and attractive. The best upbringing is one that exalts the attractiveness of the good. At the same time, one should avoid distorting beautiful images, as it were, in the name of a child’s lack of understanding. Do not degrade children! Hold firmly to the thought that true science is always attractive, concise, accurate, and beautiful. It is necessary for families to have at least a germ of understanding about education. After the age of seven much may already be lost.
Usually after the age of three the body is full of perceptions. At a child’s
very first step the hand of the guide should turn their attention to higher concepts and point out Distant Worlds. Young eyes should be trained to sense
Infinity. And it is specifically the eyes that should become accustomed to acknowledging the Infinite.
Also, words should be used to express precise thought. Falsehood, rudeness, and mockery should be excluded. Betrayal, even in thought, is inadmissible. Working “like the grown-ups do” is encouraged. Only the consciousness of a child up to the age of three can easily grasp the concept of cooperation. How erroneous it is to think that you need to give every individual child their own things, for children easily grasp the notion that all things may be shared.
The awareness that “I can achieve anything” is not a boast, but simply a
realization of the apparatus. Even the most miserable soul can find a thread
leading to Infinity, for all labour, in its individual quality, can open the gates to
Infinity.“
The task of the true school should be to “direct the consciousness of its pupils towards the future. Nobody wants to accept the idea that the shifting of awareness towards the future is to create a guiding magnet. The point is that awareness must be fully directed towards the future. Many believe that it is sufficient that they think about the future sometimes, and then return to bathing in the past. One should give to the future not just a few isolated thoughts — the very essence of the conscious mind should be attuned to the stream of the future.
It is important not to force yourself into such a transformation; this can be achieved only by coming to love the future. There are not many that love the future. A country that knows joy in labour, may be carried naturally into the future while focusing on perfecting the quality of their labour.”
Didn’t it became obvious that our educational system is based on knowledge instead on understanding of it? If yes then that explains why the world is full of clerks(bureaucrats) with knowledge while it lacks the executives who understand the things, the processes. Their spirit individuality has been lost and replaced with running after material without any balance.
Late and Grate Professor of Georgetown University Carroll Quigley noticed that some five decades ago. Has something been done about it? Yes! The programs became worse… The program is there to not to learn us HOW to think but WHAT to think.
The result?
We can see it around us as souls increasingly became unsettled. The message of Bishop Ambrose to St. Monica the mother of St. Augustin was that “Every unsettled soul will be a punishment to itself.” Do you care? Well we all should, and if the school does not encourage spiritual discussion you do it at your home, not only with your children but with friends and family! It satisfy the appetite of the soul, helps awareness, inspires and boost the thirst for more real knowledge and more important, the understanding of it!
