Protect Others From Myself

What’s the trait you value most about yourself?

Not easy, but manageable and an absolute beauty when it becomes part of your life.

Someone, who was a great warrior in his country, and participated in many battles fighting for the freedom said:

To be brave is to protect yourself from others.

To be human is to protect others from yourself.

Nice, deep, wise words. Usualy, if not always, they are difficult to be put into practice.

But as all new things are difficult, starting from baby’s walk and talk, then writing then studying, or playing basketball or soccer, it is a matter of choice, priorities, and most of all fulfilment. Or simply deciding what is our life purpose.

Then, all can be done by us humans. Esspecialy when we are dedicated,  curious, patient, ready for hard, deep work, balancing between our wants and our needs.

Regarding myself, I must confess that the decision to follow the above quote has not been easy. But the suffering and wounds anyone of us experienced, me included, have unlocked the door of authenticity and contributed to the fullness of my life. I decided not to become a hypocrite that is best described in one remarkable book “In The Heart Of The Desert” by John Chryssavgis, whom I had a pleasure of meeting when in Istanbul, “A hypocrite,” he said, ” is one who teaches one’s neighbour something without making any effort to do it oneself.”

It was another stepping stone for my decision to “Practice what you preach”( quote from the comedy Asinaria “The Comedy of Asses” a play written in Latin by the Roman playwright Titus Maccius Plautus).

And the journey continues every day! Every day! And everywhere.

It is demanding and highly beautiful and fulfilling!

My humble suggestion to all is simple and is taken from ABBA ZOSIMAS: “MAY YOUR LIFE CONFIRM YOUR WORDS.”
