Lusignans- short video from Lapidary Museum

House of Lusignan ruled Cyprus between 1192 and 1489, when they bought it from Richard the Lion Heart who conquered it in 1191. He arrived in Cyprus to rescue his fiancee Berengaria whom he then married on May 12, 1191. Berengaria and Richard the Lion Heart married at the Chapel of Saint George in Limassol and she was crowned the same day by the archbishop of Bordeaux and the bishops of Évreux and Bayonne. As his aim was to proceed with the Third Crusade he tried to sell Cyprus to Templars but when Templars could not pay, the King of Jerusalem Guy of Lusignan bought it and established his rule.
